Spreckels Education Program

"The future belongs to young people with an education and the imagination to create." President Barack Obama

Studies prove that young people involved in the arts perform better academically and show a greater involvement in community service.

Arts programs designed for young adults foster critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration and innovation. Young people who attend schools where the arts were integrated into classroom curriculum outperform their peers in math and reading who did not have an arts integrated curriculum.

Young people who participate in the Performing Arts (music, theatre, dance), tend to be more in touch with their emotions, able to verbalize what they are feeling and better equipped to deal with challenges as Adults later in life.

The Spreckels Performing Arts Center Arts Education provides a comprehensive experience for those young people who are interested in Theatre.  They are taught dance, voice, and acting techniques by top professionals from the Bay Area.

"Oh, the thinks you can think" when Dr. Seuss' best-loved characters collide and cavort in an unforgettable musical caper!

Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in Seussical JR., a fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony-winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.

Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and he must also guard an abandoned egg that's been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!
