Southwest and Commerce Boulevard Roundabout Project

Updated Week of January 10, 2022

Please be Advised: Due to the rain, this project will now begin on January 4, 2022.

Construction Updates:

This week the contractor has removed the asphalt from the site as well as completed preliminary cleaning of the area. Underground utilities, including water, sewer and power are being placed and water saving landscape irrigation is also being laid where necessary.

New streetlights will be installed and subgrade digging will also begin.

Please utilize the detour map below and note that all businesses are open and accessible during construction.

The construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Southwest and Commerce Boulevards will replace the current three-way stop. The project will increase safety for motorists, pedestrians and public transit while improving traffic flow, decreasing travel times, and reducing carbon emissions. Additionally, improvements to the neighborhood's sewer capacity will also occur during the roundabout construction.

The project is anticipated to begin on or about January 4, 2022, and continue through July 2022. Please be aware that this schedule is subject to change due to circumstances beyond the City of Rohnert Park's control including weather. Work will take place Monday through Friday from 7am to 6pm.

Will this Affect the Neighborhood?

The City and the construction manager have identified a number of mitigation efforts to help reduce disruption and inconvenience to the residents and businesses of the area and are working diligently to implement those efforts.

However, this is a significant roadway and sewer improvement project and so there will be unavoidable impact to the neighborhood including:

Heavy trucks, equipment and construction activity that will crease noise, dust, vibration and the closure of the Southwest and Commerce Boulevard intersection.

Access to all businesses and side streets will be maintained, but there may be temporary delays due to repositioning of construction equipment.

As the intersection will be closed, we encourage motorists to use alternate routes including the following detour map.

Questions and Concerns:

Access for residents/businesses: No access northbound/southbound Commerce Blvd. to Southwest Blvd. will be provided during duration of construction. Businesses will be open at all times during construction. Detours will need to be followed to get to your destination.

Emergency Vehicles: Local Fire & Police are being advised of the project and the traffic impact.

We apologize in advance for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience and cooperation while we work on the improvements in your area.

Keiser Avenue Improvements

Upcoming work (all schedules are subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances)

For most of January, crews will be working on the landscaping and other items as the project approaches completion.

The reopening of Keiser Avenue is anticipated for early 2022, to allow time for implementation of several driver and pedestrian safety elements that must be installed before the City can approve the reopening of the road. These include streetlights and additional signage, which will be implemented after the landscaping work is completed. We will continue to update the timing of the road reopening as progress is made.

Keiser Avenue only accessible to residents, community garden visitors
During this project, Keiser Avenue between Snyder Lane and Kerry Road will remain closed to through-traffic, and open to residents and community garden visitors only. Access for these motorists is from Snyder Lane only. Residents of the Redwood Apartments have access from Petaluma Hill Road and Kerry Road. Your access will periodically be impacted by the construction activity, so please allow time for the contractor to accommodate your vehicles when you are entering and exiting the area.

As this work continues, residents in the area should expect work crews, equipment, trucks entering and exiting the area, noise, and dust. For your safety, please be aware of construction activity and equipment, and observe all traffic signs and any flagger instructions.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to provide a smoother, safer roadway.
