The Civilian Public Safety Academy provides community members with an inside look at local law enforcement and fire protection. During Academy training, students will be introduced to topics such as patrol, investigations, traffic safety, records management, firefighting, and fire prevention, and have hands-on learning opportunities in areas such as de-escalation and CPR.

Academy classes are taught by current RPDPS personnel. Participants will have the opportunity to meet the Director of Public Safety and many members of the department. The goal of the Community Academy is to enhance the relationship between RPDPS and the public, resulting in a clearer understanding of what the community can expect from the employees who serve them.

The Academy is free to attend. Eligible participants must live or work within the City of Rohnert Park, and be a minimum of 18 years of age. A limited background check will be conducted on all persons selected to attend the course.

The class typically meets Wednesday evenings, 6-8pm. Applications will be reviewed for eligibility, and qualified candidates will be placed on the class roster on a first-come, first-served basis. The class is limited to 15 people. Face coverings will be required in accordance with State and County health orders in effect during the class.
