Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) District is performing railroad work within Rohnert Park and Cotati areas throughout the next year. Railroad crossings at Golf Course Drive, Copeland Creek Pedestrian Crossings, Southwest Boulevard and at East Cotati Avenue are planned to be reconstructed as part of this work. Road closures with detours in place are being proposed by SMART’s contractor. City staff are working with SMART’s contractor to minimize impacts to residents. East Cotati Avenue is tentatively scheduled to be closed, with a detour in place, at the railroad tracks prior to August 17, 2012 (in order to accommodate school opening). If for some reason the East Cotati Avenue crossing reconstruction is not completed prior to the August 17th date, then the work is required to occur at night (7 pm to 7 am). The roadway is required to be open to traffic while work on the railroad is not actively occurring. The East Cotati Avenue work is required to be performed on Fridays through Sundays to minimize the impact of the detours. The City will provide updates as new information becomes available to staff. Please be aware of this construction and plan your travels with potential delays in mind. Consider alternate routes in order to avoid construction zones. Thank you for your cooperation.
