RETIREMENT:
California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS)CalPERS uses three factors to calculate your retirement benefit:  Service Credit (years) x Benefit Factor (% per year, age) x Final Compensation = Pension/Unmodified Allowance.  Pension benefits are payable for life.

Per the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act (PEPRA), effective 1/1/13, new-hire employees with no prior membership in any California public retirement system will be placed in the following retirement formulas.  Employees must contribute 50% of the normal cost rate to CalPERS.

  • Miscellaneous:  2%@ age 62
  • Safety Employees:  2.7%@ age 57

New-hire employees who first established CalPERS membership with another agency prior to January 1, 2013 and are eligible to establish reciprocity with the City of Rohnert Park are considered "classic" members and will be placed in the following retirement formulas:

  • Miscellaneous:  2%@ age 55
  • Safety Employees:  3%@ age 55
  • The City does not participate in Social Security, but does withhold Medicare taxes.

Alternate Benefit Information:

Alternate Benefit: If you are not enrolling in a Health Plan, you are eligible for the $400 monthly benefit. Or if two employees are employed by the City and one carries benefits for the couple/family, the other is eligible for the Alternate Benefit.  Proof of other health insurance coverage is required in order to receive the benefit. The alternate benefit amount may be directed to an employee’s deferred compensation account, CalPERS repayment, or Supplemental Life Insurance.
